Among the winners of the Fourth Shanghai Teaching Innovation Contest for College Teachers, Associate Professor ZHOU Zhengyu from the School of Ocean and Earth Science of Tongji University won a grand prize. In addition, the university was awarded the Outstanding Organization Award.
The teaching innovation contest, organized by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, is divided into different categories, including the construction of the Four News (i.e., the innovative development of engineering, medical, agricultural, and liberal arts disciplines in the new era), basic courses, philosophical and political courses, and industry-education integration. The purpose of this contest is to contribute to the building of a powerhouse in education and the high-quality development of higher education, implement the fundamental task of moral education, promote the spirit of educators, and enhance the competence of college teachers.

Appreciation of Chinese Jade and Jade Culture

This course is a common elective course open to undergraduate students of all grades and majors. The number of students enrolled in the course exceeds 1,200 each academic year. In the face of obstacles encountered by students from different majors, such as difficulty in resonance among disciplines and in practical participation, the course selected Chinese jade culture as the link, reconstructing the content with philosophical and political elements, professional knowledge, and vivid scenarios. The course team has won five national awards, eight provincial and ministerial awards (honors), and honors such as national first-class undergraduate courses and Shanghai’s exemplary undergraduate courses.
