The 41st Ocean Fest | Global Change, the Anthropocene and the Future of Mankind

Seminar Speaker: Congqiang Liu, Tianjin University

Abstract: Human beings have only existed for hundreds of thousands of years in the history of the earth, but they have had an immeasurable and important impact on the earth system. Human activities have destroyed the self-regulation mechanism of the earth system and caused other systemic changes in the global environment such as climate change. These changes have brought irreversible consequences to mankind. What systemic changes have taken place in the earth's environment on which mankind depends, and what is the current situation? How is it changing? What are the positive and negative drivers of these changes? How do scientists study these changes? How should human beings deal with these changes scientifically and achieve sustainable development? In this report, the above questions will be discussed from the perspective of earth system science.
