海洋环流与气候动力学研究
主要成果:
(1)发现一支重要的太平洋潜流和多个新的印尼贯穿流分支,改变了印太洋际交换的传统认识格局。发现并命名了太平洋北赤道次表层流(NESC),位于北赤道逆流之下,向西流动进入印尼贯穿流源区,流量可达近25Sv,深度达2000m,在诸多太平洋潜流中为最长最强,并在北太平洋翻转环流中起重要作用。
对印尼海入口海流开展大规模、长时序观测,发现上层南太平洋水通过哈马黑拉海和马鲁古海中层西边界流大量入侵印尼海的新的印尼贯穿流分支,还发现印尼海东部的马鲁古海峡上层平均输运流向太平洋,为印尼贯穿流逆流的存在提供了关键证据,显著改变了传统大输送带环流仅在北太平洋翻转的格局认识。
揭示潜流的生成机制是低阶斜压模态的叠加响应,颠覆了现代大洋温跃层理论关于西太主温跃层之下是静止不动的“阴影区”的了认识。
(2)创建暖池区海洋环流的多尺度动力学理论,原创提出印太年际变化的“海洋通道”机制,为提高ENSO预报能力提供了依据。发现赤道罗斯贝波与西边界流存在强相互作用并揭示其动力机制,建立起不连续西边界非线性反射的分岔理论,揭示西边界流变异对热带海洋环流和气候的重要影响。揭示季节内风场通过海洋非线性调制年际异常振幅远小于观测的年际异常,挑战了季节内风场诱发ENSO事件的传统观点。发现由多尺度非线性过程驱动的热带大洋非斯维尔德鲁普环流结构,是对经典理论的修正。揭示东、西边界反射对如印度洋偶极子的年际异常事件的滞后负反馈机制,原创提出印度洋偶极子通过印尼贯穿流影响太平洋年际变化的“海洋通道”机制,为提高ENSO跨春季预报能力提供了科学依据。
(3)引领国际西边界流与边缘海交换过程研究。发现并命名闽浙近海一类新的海洋学现象——近海跨陆架穿刺锋面;揭示黄东海内陆架与黑潮跨陆架交换的两个主要通道:东海海流和CPF及其动力机制,在国际上率先开展跨陆架输碳埋碳通量研究及其对全球变化的响应;发现夏季辽东向南和苏北向北的沿岸流,及其交汇形成潜流和逆温现象,揭示黄海暖流沿海槽地形西侧逆风流动的动力机制;发现南海深层“三明治”环流结构并揭示其机制;发现吕宋海峡黑潮的甩涡、夏季流套和季节内变异特征,揭示并命名了吕宋暖涡等重要海洋学现象,等等。
